LCP “Land Use Element” & Coastal VRs

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors (BoS) reviewed the Local County Plan (LCP) at their meeting on 8/30/2022, and held a public hearing on 10/4/2022.

It has taken the county years to get to this point. In the future the LCP should be updated each 20 years. The LCP is an important part of the county’s planning for the “Coastal Zone”.

The county has proposed a Vacation Rental Policy Recommendation for the “LAND USE ELEMENT” of the LCP:

After the BoS approves the LCP it will be sent to the CA Coastal Commission (CCC) for Certification. After this final step the LCP will be effective.

The count Permit Sonoma (Planning Dept.) will implement the VR Program after it has been approved by the BoS and the CCC. At that point the public will know whether Coastal Zone VR owners will be grandfathered, and what requirement apply to them or other VR owners in the Coastal Zone. Public comment will be encouraged during the above BoS and CCC deliberations.
