Measure B Tax Fails

Measure B – a west Sonoma County TOT tax increase on the ballot – failed in the 3/2/2021 vote.

Measures B failed to get sufficient votes to increase the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) from 12% to 16%.

Measure B was a NEW TAX and required a ⅔ vote. It got 60% of the vote (out of 12,000+ votes). It sought to raise $2.7 million in extra TOT to go towards Bodega Bay Area coast paramedic services and west county education.

The county already has a 12% TOT paid by hotels, lodging, and short term vacation rentals. It was the first time the county Board of Supervisors, led by the coast District 5 representative Lynda Hopkins, sought to raise the TOT in a selected part of the county for something other than tourism.
