This is information about the county’s Vacation Rental PERMIT process. It will become applicable to the COASTAL ZONE after the VR PERMIT and VR Regulations are approved by the CA Coastal Commission.
The VR ZONING PERMIT is required of all NEW VR homes in the county’s unincorporated area.
Existing VR homes in the Coastal Zone are exempted from this permit requirement if you were legally operating between 9/2/2017 and 9/2/2022. See proposed Sec. 26C-325.10 Vacation Rentals, E. Permits, 2. Exceptions.
The VR BUSINESS LICENSE will be required of all VR homes in the unincorporated county area.
If you have been operating as a VR in the Coastal Zone and paying TOT the county will be in touch when you need to obtain a VR Business License.
